About Port Alberni Excavating
Port Alberni Excavating is an excavation company working across Port Alberni, Sproat Lake and Beaver Creek. We handle site preparation, drainage and driveways with $2M in liability insurance, pull required permits, and price every job on site.
The work we take on
We handle excavation, site preparation, drainage and driveway work. On the digging side, we excavate foundations, basements and building pads. For site prep, we clear brush, strip soil and rough-grade your lot for the builder. We install perimeter drains and regrade your lot to move water. We handle complete driveway excavation or rebuild a base that has failed over time. We focus primarily on residential properties. We also take on small commercial excavation jobs.

Who issues your building permit?
We check which local authority issues your building permit based on your property location. Inside Port Alberni, the City issues your building permit under Building Bylaw No. 5077. The Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District issues your building permit for rural property in its electoral areas. We handle the permit paperwork for you. Electrical work needs its own permit through Technical Safety BC. We apply, we book the inspections, and we see them signed off. Our permits guide sets out what needs one.
How we request utility locates
We send a BC 1 Call locate request before starting any excavation on your property. A locate result stays valid for 30 days. Work has to start within 14 days of the request. Nobody puts a bucket in your ground until that has come back.
Our insurance and coverage
We carry $2 million in liability insurance and full WorkSafeBC coverage.
How a job runs
You send us the details of what you want done. We visit your property to check site access and job details. You receive a free written quote on site. Expect to hear back within 24 hours of getting in touch. Once you accept, we sort the permit and the locate, book the machine time, and get on with it.
Haul-off and disposal
We quote material that leaves your lot on its own line, completely separate from machine time. Disposal at the Alberni Valley Sort'nGo Centre is billed by the tonne. Your total cost depends on the material type. Our cost guide carries the published rates alongside the machine classes.
